In the men´ s category continues to be dominated by the Netherlands, with Huig Jan Tak in the lead. Whilst in the Women’s category Nicole Van Der Velden currently holds second place after the fleet racing held closely following the British Islay Watson, who retains first place.
The iQFoil final started strong, with a squall that left the wind very unstable, with gusts of between 3 and 12 knots, but that the Spaniards have been able to take advantage of, giving advantage especially to Nicole Van Der Velden, who manages to move from fourth to second place in the overall standings during the first windward-leeward race. First place is still held by the British Islay Watson.
It seems that this type of racing suited Pilar Lamadrid to stay in the top 10, with the option to compete in the medal race, after the four slalom (zigzag) races on Monday, in which she also obtained good results (5, 7, 5), but a disqualification in the first race caused her to fall behind.
In the men's fleet, the Dutch Huig Jan Tak continues unstoppable, getting a second and a first place in the races held this morning in the marina of Marina Rubicon. Yesterday, the Dutch sailor showed his dominance on the Lanzarote race course, with 3 wins out of the 4 slalom races held. The British Matthew Barton grabbed second place from the Israeli Yoav Omer. Angel Granda struggled with the format and failed to be in the top 10, so he will not be able to qualify to compete in the medal race.
This afternoon the iQFOil awards ceremony will be held after the end medal race. Then next up in the Lanzarote International Regatta we will see other Olympic sailing classes compete: ILCA 6 and 7, 49er and 49er FX.
